Hello from the Beautypedia team,
Cover Girl Wetslicks AmazeMint ($5.79). This sheer lip gloss comes in some enticing, shimmer-infused sheer colors, but the advertisement about it containing Crest peppermint oil is not to be taken lightly! This irritating gloss tingles immediately and keeps on tingling, a sure sign lips are being irritated. The mint aroma is also unmistakable, and may entice you to continually lick your lips—not a good idea.
$$$ Dr. Hauschka Bronzing Powder ($33.95). The problem with this smooth-textured pressed bronzing powder is its sole shade doesn’t resemble a bronze or tan tone in the least. Instead, it’s predominantly peach with an undertone of pink. Not bad for blush, but inappropriate for use as bronzing powder, which is how this is sold. This is also very fragrant (reminiscent of the way Cover Girl’s Clean Pressed Powder smells) and the ingredient list indicates several volatile fragrance chemicals that can be irritating.
Jane MaxLash² Precise Lash Defining Mascara ($4.99). This is yet another mascara with a spiky, rubber-bristled brush. The brush Jane chose allows for precise application without clumps. Lashes get long quickly and each is well-defined, even with successive coats. Thickness is harder to come by, but this works very well if you need an inexpensive mascara that lasts yet comes off easily with a water soluble cleanser.
RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Daily Moisturizer SPF 30($19.99 for 1 ounce). Those with normal to dry skin looking for a daytime moisturizer with retinol would do well to consider this product. The in-part avobenzone sunscreen (using Neutrogena’s Helioplex technology, though RoC doesn’t advertise this; both companies are owned by Johnson & Johnson) has a smooth texture and satin finish. The pH is above 4.5, which means the glycolic acid won’t function as an exfoliant. But this does contain retinol and comes in packaging that keeps it stable.
$$$ Urban Decay Big Buddha Brush ($36). A religious icon in the name aside, this synthetic hair brush with the squat handle is a brilliant way to apply powders to a large area of skin at once. The brush hair is wonderfully soft and dense, yet flexible enough to enable a sheer dusting of, say, shimmer powder from the neck down. If you need a brush like this and don’t mind the absence of an elongated handle, this is well worth checking out.
