Best Celebrity Makeup Looks
Want a new makeup look or just a guide to help you achieve your best look? Take a lesson from these leading ladies who are wearing a fabulous makeup look appropriate for their age, hair color, and skin color. We can show you how to re-create the look you want so your makeup application looks perfectly healthy, fresh, and radiant! We've listed our favorite Paula's Choice products and, of course, you can always go to Beautypedia.com to see the other great makeup products we recommend.
Blake Lively, 23
Blake Lively is young enough to experiment with makeup looks, and she does but in a tasteful way. She stays away from the heavy, overly black eye design that many celebrities her age rely
on to stand out. Instead, she sticks with eyeshadows in neutral colors or a flattering shade of golden peach to bring out her blue eyes. She's not afraid to change up her lip color, and she knows how to maintain color balance. Blake gets an A+ for her ability to transform from an effortless daytime look with softer shades to a classically elegant look, red lipstick and all.
To achieve Blake's look, try Revlon's Luxurious Color Satin Eye Shadow ($4.99), Wet 'n' Wild's Wild Shine Lip Lacquer ($2.99), and Paula's Choice Healthy Finish Pressed Powder SPF 15
in Healthy Tan ($14.95) for a bronzed glow.
Kerry Washington, 34
Kerry Washington consistently impresses us with her sultry eye makeup that beautifully accentuates her eyes, rather than overpowering them or making her eyes look smaller. She wears flattering shades of brown, slate, or black eyeshadow against her gorgeous, dark skin tone and softens her already voluptuous lips with shades of nude or pink. She knows how to keep her makeup fresh and sexy without overpowering any one feature.
Copy Kerry's eye makeup design with Victoria's Secret Silky Eye Shadow in the shade Fierce ($10), Paula's Choice Illicit Lash Maximum Impact Mascara ($10.95), and on your lips use Maybelline's Color Sensational Lipcolor ($8.29) in the shades Nearly There or Born With It.
Catherine Zeta-Jones, 41
Catherine Zeta-Jones is obviously blessed with natural beauty, and she knows how to make
the
most of it. Her makeup look throughout the years hasn't changed much, and there's a
good reason for that - it's gorgeous, and you're always looking at her, not at her makeup!
She creates a great balance between natural and dramatic. She's never without a lipstick that complements her skin tone, and she plays up her lashes while perfectly framing her eyes
with expertly groomed brows. For the red carpet, Zeta-Jones glams it up with a beautiful,
smoky eye, taking her look to maximum glamour.
Get Catherine's perfect eyebrows with Paula's Choice Browlistic Long-Wearing Precision
Brow Color ($9.95), and mimic her long-wear lip color with Cover Girl's Outlast All-Day
Lipcolor ($9.99).
Julianne Moore, 50
Julianne Moore lets her stunning red hair and porcelain skin take center stage, while her makeup plays a supporting role. She strategically uses makeup to subtly accentuate her eyes, lips, and cheekbones, whether she's using tones of coral, nude, or mauve. Julianne has used sunscreen faithfully since her mid-twenties, and it shows in her glowing, radiant complexion. Redheads (whether natural or dyed), take note: This is how to do soft, defining makeup that doesn't compete with your attention-getting hair color!
Use Paula's Choice Moisture Boost Daily Restoring Complex with SPF 20 ($20.95) to keep
your skin radiant and protected like Julianne's, and accentuate your cheekbones with Sonia Kashuk's Beautifying Blush ($7.99) in Melon or Lily for a subtle, healthy glow.
Helen Mirren, 65
Helen Mirren still knows how to turn heads at the age of 65. Her makeup (and age-appropriate hairstyle) plays up the features that keep her looking radiant without coming across as though she's trying too hard. Helen uses blush on her cheeks to add a vibrant, healthy glow, and she keeps her eye makeup design minimal, but elegant, with the focus on eyeliner rather than lots
of eyeshadow. She knows how to vamp things up with classic red lipstick and strategic shine
on Oscar night, but she also plays around with other flattering lip colors for everyday wear.
Imitate Helen's age-appropriate look by using Physicians Formula's Eye Definer Felt-Tip Eye Marker ($6.95) and Paula's Choice Sheer Cream Lipstick SPF 15 ($10.95) in conjunction with Long-Lasting Anti-Feather Lipliner ($7.95) to help keep your lipstick from traveling into lines
around the mouth.
Stay tuned for celebrity makeup looks that make our DON'T list, and what you can learn from their mistakes!

Dear Paula
Dear Paula,
How can I look refreshed in the morning when traveling? My eyes always look like I've been drinking heavily the next day (which I haven't - I don't drink at all!) and am wondering if there are any recommendations you have to help either during the night or the next morning.
Deb, via email
Hi Deb,
Great question! Oftentimes dry eyes during traveling (whether it's flying or staying in a hotel) are due to dry, recirculated air and the stress of making your way through the airport (always looking around and not blinking as often as we should). Here are my tips:
1. Always use lubricating eye drops every time you experience that dry feeling. Be sure to pack the eye drops in your carry-on bag! Do not use the kind of eye drops that "get the red out" as these often lead to more dryness and eventually make red eyes look worse. A great option: Refresh Tears Lubricant Eye Drops, which you can find at Target and most major drugstores. This is the number one answer to your problems.
2. Dry, red eyes when you're traveling can be made worse if you have allergies (different environs can have allergens that can cause a strong reaction). With your doctor's OK, consider taking an antihistamine while traveling. Claritin is a good one because it won't cause drowsiness.
3. If you need to sleep on a long flight ask your physician if it's okay to use Benadryl, an antihistamine whose chief side effect is drowsiness.
4. In the morning after getting out of bed, splash eyes with cool water. Next, dampen a washcloth with cool water and place it over your eyes as you lie down for a few more minutes. Alternately, you can purchase one of those gel-filled "eye masks" and stash it in your hotel room's mini-fridge so it stays cool.
5. During the flight, ask the flight attendant for extra ice and use a cloth you brought with you on the plane to place over your eyes.
6. Lastly, if you're traveling to dry, arid climates (think Denver or Phoenix) invest in a small, portable humidifier and use it in your hotel room at night. If it's small enough, you can put it on the bedside table (where there's typically an extra outlet) so the moisture "surrounds" you as you sleep. Be sure to fill it with bottled or distilled water.

Ingredient Spotlight
Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Low-dosage birth-control pills (generic norgestimate/ethinyl estradiol) approved for use in the United States for the treatment of acne. In Canada, the birth control pill Diane-35, a combination of cyproterone acetate and ethinyl estradiol, is approved for treatment of acne (Source: Skin Therapy Letter, 1999, volume 4, number 4, www.dermatology.org/skintherapy). According to a double-blind, placebo-controlled study published in Fertility and Sterility (September 2001, pages 461–468), other "low-dose birth-control pills can be an effective and safe treatment for moderate acne." The double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial found that the birth-control pill containing levonorgestrel (Alesse) reduced the appearance of acne.
