BEST
$$$ gloMinerals gloPressed Base Powder Foundation ($39). This is the pressed (and less messy) version of gloMinerals’ gloLoose Base Powder Foundation. Like the Loose version, this has a mica base and application that feels silky and slightly creamy but sets to a dry matte finish that feels remarkably smooth and offers a soft, non-sparkling glow to skin. It is one of the best pressed mineral foundations due to its superior texture, application, and blendability. It also manages to not look flat or dull on skin, though overdoing this definitely results in a powdery look that can accentuate lines. This is still highly recommended for fans of mineral makeup that have normal to slightly dry or oily skin.
WORST
Burt’s Bees Natural Acne Solutions Pore Refining Scrub ($10 for 4 ounces). This topical scrub is a mess on several counts. The main issue is that it contains several plant oils that are inappropriate for anyone struggling with blemishes. Secondary issues include the thick, creamy texture this has and the fact that it doesn’t rinse without leaving a waxy film on skin (it really feels awful over oily areas). The active ingredient of salicylic acid has minimal chance of being helpful due to this scrub’s brief contact with skin (not to mention it has all those oils to work through before it can touch your skin).
