BEST
Neutrogena Healthy Lengths Mascara ($7.49). From the first stroke, Healthy Lengths Mascara delivers impressive results, going on easily and evenly, with nary a clump in sight. The rubber bristle brush separates leashes beautifully, with enough width to deliver ample volume at the lash line, and a pointed tip to provide definition to smaller inner corner lashes. Contrary to its name, this mascara thickened and lengthened in equal measure for an effect that’s not quite high glamour, but definitely glam by Neutrogena’s standards. You might think that simply applying more coats would yield more dramatic results, but, as it turns out, two’s the limit. By the third coat the mascara does begin to clump and lashes stick together. This mascara kept lashes soft during the day, with no smearing or flaking to speak of. When it came time to bid adieu, removal was easy enough with a good eye makeup remover. Until we meet again, Healthy Lengths!
WORST
Sothys Clarte & Confort Concentrated Serum ($45 for 1 ounce). On the ingredient it lists “natural polyphenols” as the active ingredient but that is not an active ingredient regulated by any cosmetic regulatory agency in the world. Not to mention the plants that make up this blend of “special” ingredients aren’t necessarily a great source of polyphenols and, in fact, several would cause irritation. This serum is rife with problematic ingredients, including alcohol, peppermint, mint, lemon, and a sensitizing preservative blend. None of this is soothing for anyone’s skin.
